Day-by-Day Route Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

Duration: approximately 30–40 minutes

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Lukla – 2,860 m / 9,383 ft; Phakding – 2,610 m / 8,563 ft | Flight: approximately 30–40 minutes; trek: 3–4 hours Transfer to the operating airport and fly to Lukla, subject to weather and airport conditions. Meet the trekking crew and follow the Dudh Koshi through Chaurikharka to Phakding. Overnight in Phakding.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 2: Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Duration: approximately 6–7 hours

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Namche Bazaar – 3,440 m / 11,286 ft | Trek: approximately 6–7 hours Cross suspension bridges and pass Monjo before entering Sagarmatha National Park. Beyond Jorsalle, climb steadily through forest to Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar. What to expect: The stage from Phakding to Namche Bazaar reveals gradual changes in landscape and settlement, making the journey more than a simple transfer between overnight stops. Within the Khumbu’s Sherpa settlements, Buddhist landscape and high mountain environment, trail surfaces, bridge conditions and seasonal water levels can alter the pace. Keep rain protection, sun protection and drinking water accessible. The guide will manage breaks and may modify the stopping point if weather or trail conditions, accommodation availability, or a participant’s health make the published schedule impractical.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 3: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Duration: approximately 3–5 hours

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Namche Bazaar – 3,440 m / 11,286 ft | Hike: approximately 3–5 hours Take a guided acclimatization hike toward Syangboche, the Everest View Hotel, Khumjung or another suitable viewpoint, then return to sleep in Namche. Rest, hydrate and report any symptoms before continuing higher. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 4: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

Duration: approximately 5–6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Tengboche – approximately 3,860 m / 12,664 ft | Trek: approximately 5–6 hours

Traverse above the Dudh Koshi, descend to Phunki Tenga and climb through forest to Tengboche. Visit the monastery only when arrival time and local access permit. Overnight in Tengboche or nearby. What to expect: As the route follows Namche Bazaar to Tengboche, the walk combines steady progress with the cultural and environmental character of the Khumbu’s Sherpa settlements, Buddhist landscape and high mountain environment. Conditions can range from forest shade or cultivated paths to open, wind-exposed slopes depending on the section. The stated trekking time excludes extended stops for meals, photography and rest. Respect lodge resources, minimize waste and keep noise low around homes, monasteries and grazing areas. The guide has final authority over arrival times and safety decisions.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 5: Tengboche to Dingboche

Duration: approximately 5–6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Dingboche – approximately 4,410 m / 14,469 ft | Trek: approximately 5–6 hours Descend through Deboche, cross the Imja Khola and continue through Pangboche into open alpine terrain. Move slowly during the significant sleeping-altitude gain. Overnight in Dingboche. What to expect: Today’s route—Tengboche to Dingboche—continues through the Khumbu’s Sherpa settlements, Buddhist landscape and high mountain environment. The trail may combine gradual sections with steeper climbs, descents or uneven surfaces, so the guide sets a sustainable pace and selects rest stops according to the weather, trail conditions and the group’s wellbeing. Walk attentively through settlements and agricultural areas, ask before photographing people, and allow local residents and pack animals priority. Arrival time remains approximate and use the afternoon to eat, hydrate and recover.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 6: Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Duration: approximately 3–5 hours

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Dingboche – approximately 4,410 m / 14,469 ft | Hike: approximately 3–5 hours Take a controlled hike toward Nangkartshang Hill or another viewpoint selected for health, weather and trail conditions. Return to Dingboche for lunch, hydration and rest. Anyone with worsening symptoms must stop ascent or descend. Overnight in Dingboche.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 7: Dingboche to Lobuche

Duration: approximately 5–6 hours

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Lobuche – approximately 4,910 m / 16,109 ft | Trek: approximately 5–6 hours Climb toward Thukla, ascend past the climbers’ memorials and continue through the high valley to Lobuche. Prepare for the following day and rest at the highest sleeping altitude so far. Overnight in Lobuche.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 8: Lobuche to Everest Base Camp and Gorak Shep

Duration: approximately 7–8 hours

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner Gorak Shep – approximately 5,164 m / 16,942 ft; Everest Base Camp – approximately 5,364 m / 17,598 ft | Trek: approximately 7–8 hours Walk beside the Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep, leave unnecessary gear and continue across rocky moraine to Everest Base Camp. Everest’s summit is not prominently visible from base camp, but the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding peaks create a dramatic setting. Return to Gorak Shep. Overnight in Gorak Shep.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 9: Kala Patthar and Helicopter Return to Kathmandu

Duration: approximately 3–4 hours

Accommodation & Food: Hotel in Kathmandu if included in the confirmed package Meals: Breakfast; other meals as specified in the confirmed package Kala Patthar – approximately 5,545 m / 18,192 ft | Hike: approximately 3–4 hours; helicopter routing varies Begin before dawn for Kala Patthar if health, weather, timing and trail conditions allow. Return to Gorak Shep for the planned helicopter pickup. High-altitude payload limits may require separate shuttle flights and regrouping at Pheriche, Lukla or another lower site before continuing toward Kathmandu. If the helicopter cannot operate, an extra night and revised descent or flight plan will be necessary.

Helicopter Return: Essential Conditions • The helicopter does not normally land at Everest Base Camp for this product; pickup is planned from Gorak Shep or another approved site. • All operations depend on weather, visibility, daylight, air-traffic control, aircraft availability and the pilot’s decision. • High-altitude payload restrictions may require multiple shuttle sectors and regrouping at a lower landing site. • Passenger and baggage weights must be declared accurately before departure. • A private charter is not included unless explicitly stated; shared-flight timing may vary. • The operating endpoint may change between Kathmandu, Ramechhap, Lukla or another approved location. • If the helicopter cannot fly, clients follow the guide’s safe accommodation or descent plan and pay costs outside the confirmed inclusions. • The planned return flight is different from an emergency medical rescue flight.

Accommodation: Hotel in Kathmandu if included in the confirmed packageMeals: Breakfast; other meals as specified in the confirmed package

Accommodation Details

Accommodation is normally twin-share in teahouses or lodges on the trail and in a Kathmandu hotel according to the confirmed package. Facilities become basic at higher elevations, and room heating is generally unavailable.

Transportation Details

Lukla services may operate from Kathmandu or Manthali depending on season and airport arrangements. Mountain flights and helicopter sectors are weather-dependent, so a contingency day is strongly recommended.

Connectivity and Trail Facilities

Charging and Wi-Fi are paid and increasingly unreliable with altitude. Carry a power bank and spare batteries.

Mobile coverage is intermittent and may be unavailable in valleys or during outages. Do not depend on continuous service.

Most lodges use shared toilets; facilities become simpler at altitude. Hot showers may be available for an extra charge where water and fuel permit.

Booking and Cancellation Information

Confirmation requires the stated deposit, passport details and traveller information. Balance dates, payment methods, currency and transaction charges follow the official invoice.

Cancellation costs depend on notice and non-refundable flights, permits, lodges and supplier commitments. Weather, health or operational conditions may require rerouting, extra nights or ground/flight changes.

Safety, Insurance and Emergency Information

Insurance is mandatory and must cover trekking to the itinerary’s maximum altitude, altitude illness, trip interruption, medical treatment and helicopter evacuation in Nepal.

The guide coordinates rest, descent or evacuation according to the situation. Helicopter rescue or the planned return flight depends on weather, landing conditions, aircraft availability, authorisation and insurer or payment guarantees.

Permits and Entry Requirements

The route normally requires the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entry permit. Current requirements will be reconfirmed before departure.

Meals and Drinking Water

Trail lodges serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with simpler menus at altitude. The confirmed meal plan depends on the package. Carry reusable bottles and use boiled or properly treated water.

Best Season, Weather and Temperature

Conditions can shift quickly from strong sun to snow, wind and sub-zero temperatures. Cloud and wind may delay Lukla flights or helicopter operations and can require itinerary changes.

A licensed guide manages navigation, lodge coordination, acclimatization monitoring and emergencies. Porter service and baggage limits depend on the package. Guests carry personal essentials in a daypack.

FAQs

Is this a real trek to Everest Base Camp?

Yes. Trekkers walk from Lukla to Everest Base Camp. The helicopter is used only for the planned return after the base-camp visit.

Why was the old itinerary changed?

The old version stopped trekking at Dingboche and claimed a helicopter landing at base camp. It was a helicopter excursion, not a genuine Everest Base Camp trek.

Where does the helicopter pick us up?

The planned pickup is Gorak Shep or another operationally approved upper-Khumbu site—not Everest Base Camp itself.

Does the itinerary include Kala Patthar?

Kala Patthar is planned on Day 9 but remains conditional on health, weather, timing and helicopter operations.

Is the helicopter guaranteed?

No. Weather, visibility, aircraft availability, payload and the pilot’s decision determine operation.

What happens if the helicopter cannot fly?

The group follows the guide’s safe accommodation or descent plan. Extra costs apply unless explicitly included.

Are two acclimatization days enough?

They provide a much better schedule than the shorter express options, but no itinerary eliminates altitude illness risk.

What insurance is required?

Choose coverage for trekking to at least 5,600 m, medical treatment, trip disruption and emergency helicopter evacuation.

Are baggage limits strict?

Yes. Lightweight soft baggage and accurate passenger weights are required for high-altitude helicopter operations.

Is this suitable for beginners?

Fit first-time trekkers may consider it after medical and experience review, but a longer standard itinerary is still more conservative.

How is this different from the 8-day package?

The nine-day version includes a second acclimatization day in Dingboche, making the ascent more realistic.

Can extra days be added?

Yes. Kathmandu buffer days or additional mountain acclimatization can be added to a private departure.
