“The mountain does not care about deadlines, calendars, or booking fees. It respects only preparation, patient acclimatization, and genuine humility.”
Founded by high-altitude mountaineers and local Sherpa leaders from the Solukhumbu and Rolwaling valleys, Barunche Treks began not as an office agency in Kathmandu, but on the rocky moraines of 5,000-meter passes. Having worked for decades as lead sirdars, expedition logistics managers, and rescue climbers for foreign operators, our founders saw an urgent problem: mass tourism was stripping the soul out of trekking.
Itineraries were being dangerously shortened to cut costs. Non-technical agencies were sending trekkers over high alpine passes without pulse-oximetry monitoring, proper medical kits, or fair wages for local porters.
In response, we established Barunche Treks to operate on a radically transparent standard: combining surgical European safety protocols with authentic, multi-generational Sherpa mountaineering knowledge. We eliminated middlemen brokers, allowing trekkers to plan their journeys directly with the alpine specialists who lead them in the field.
Today, Barunche operates as an integrated Himalayan expedition platform. From classic circuits like Everest and Annapurna to restricted wilderness crossings like Manaslu, Kanchenjunga, and Upper Mustang, we deliver experiences rooted in environmental ethics, technical precision, and heartfelt mountain hospitality.
We never rush altitude gains. Our itineraries are engineered with buffer days and progressive altitude curves proven to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), resulting in industry-leading pass completion rates.
Every expedition team is equipped with certified satellite communicators, continuous pulse oximeters, hyperbaric emergency chambers on high passes, and 24/7 direct-standby helicopter evacuation coverage.
We prioritize homestays, family-run mountain teahouses, and local highland suppliers over commercial chain conglomerates, ensuring your travel funds directly empower Himalayan families.
Porters are the true backbone of Himalayan exploration. We strictly abide by the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG) guidelines and exceed national wage standards by over 30%.
Every porter on our team receives identical gear, insulated sleeping equipment, medical insurance, and strict weight caps (maximum 20-25 kg) before departure. We never cut expedition costs at the expense of human dignity.
The Himalayas are ecologically fragile and facing accelerating glacial retreat. Barunche implements an uncompromising environmental charter across all our trekking and mountaineering routes.
We strictly enforce “Pack It In, Pack It Out” policies. For high-pass camping and mountaineering routes, all non-biodegradable waste is cataloged, weighed at base camps, and transported down to Kathmandu recycling depots.
